Wooden bases/skids
Wooden bases/skids form the foundation of the Foresco Packaging offering. Almost every product rests on a base or pallet during transport. For larger, heavier or non-standard loads, we develop wooden bases/skids that provide stability, load-bearing capacity and safe handling.
Designed around load and logistics
Each wooden base is designed around the product and its logistics. Weight, dimensions, handling and transport determine the construction. Whether for domestic distribution or export by sea, the base is designed to suit the entire journey, from loading and transport to placement on site. In the construction sector too (e.g. the transport of window frames and glass), our solutions in the form of stillages always provide a safe and reliable answer.
The foundation for crates and packaging
Wooden bases/skids are the load-bearing element beneath wooden shipping crates, pallet collars and other packaging components. They provide stability during transport and make it possible to secure machines and parts directly to the base. In this way, they create order and predictability in logistics.
Built for load-bearing performance and stress
When designing wooden bases/skids, we take into account all factors that affect load-bearing capacity and safety, such as:
- Dimensions of the load-bearing surface
- Position and number of support points
- Deflection in both longitudinal and transverse directions
- Positioning of base beams
- Any contact or surface protection
This results in a wooden base that supports the load optimally, even under heavy or concentrated loads.
Bespoke bases/skids
Every wooden base or skid is bespoke. Its construction is tailored to the product, weight and batch size. Depending on the application, wooden bases are produced manually, semi-automatically or fully automatically. For export applications, the bases comply with current ISPM 15 requirements, including HT treatment where necessary.
Industrial applications and sectors
Our wooden bases/skids are widely used in machinery manufacturing, offshore, petrochemicals and logistics. They also provide a reliable foundation for industrial relocations and project-based transport. Like pallets, they can be handled easily with forklift trucks and are suitable for intensive use.
From enquiry to delivery
From first contact to production, Foresco completely relieves your organisation of the burden. Following the enquiry with product specifications, we provide a quotation, including a drawing if required. Once the order is confirmed, production begins and your wooden bases/skids are delivered as agreed. Many of our customers have worked with us in this area for years.
Sustainable design with realism
When designing wooden bases/skids, we apply value engineering. The timber used complies with all applicable laws and regulations and aligns with our broader sustainability ambitions. We deliberately choose PEFC-certified and recycled timber.
Smarter packaging in the future
Thanks to advanced automation and digitalisation, we are able to design and produce wooden bases/skids ever more efficiently. By using customers’ 3D drawings and product data, we continuously improve the packaging process. Where required, bases can be combined with additional solutions, such as corrosion protection.
