How many boxes fit on a pallet?

If you regularly ship or store products, it is important to know how many boxes fit on a pallet. This helps optimise transport costs, storage space, and logistics planning. At Foresco, we understand how important it is to make efficient use of your pallet capacity. Therefore, we are happy to provide more insight into this process.

What is a standard pallet size?

The most commonly used size in Europe is the Euro pallet, also known as the EPAL pallet. It measures 120 x 80 cm. Additionally, there is the block pallet with a size of 120 x 100 cm, which is widely used in the industry. The capacity can vary depending on the type of pallet and the dimensions of your boxes. The calculations below take into account a Euro pallet and the block pallet of 120 x 100 cm.

How do you determine how many boxes fit on a pallet?

The number of boxes that fit on a pallet depends on several factors:

  • The dimensions of the boxes: larger boxes obviously take up more space than smaller boxes.
  • The stackability of the boxes: not all boxes can be safely stacked. Sometimes there are restrictions in height or weight.
  • The type of pallet: as mentioned above, there are different pallet sizes. A Euro pallet offers less surface area than a block pallet.

Calculating the number of boxes per pallet

On our webshop, we sell 4 types of pallet boxes. See below how many boxes fit per variant on one pallet. The calculations take into account the 80x120 cm Euro pallet and 100x120,cm block pallet.

Pallet box DG 78 x 56 x 56 cm

This pallet box is designed so that 2 boxes fit side by side on a Euro pallet. 4 boxes can be stacked in height. This means that a total of 8 boxes fit on a pallet.

Pallet box 118 x 78 x 78 cm

Due to its size, this pallet box is ideal for use on a Euro pallet. 1 box per layer fits on the pallet, and 3 boxes can be stacked in height. This results in a maximum capacity of 3 boxes per pallet.

Pallet box EG 59 x 39 x 37 cm

4 of these smaller pallet boxes fit per layer on a Euro pallet. 6 boxes can be stacked in height. This results in a total capacity of 24 boxes per pallet.

Pallet box EG 59 x 38 x 38 cm

This pallet box has almost the same dimensions as the box mentioned above. Like it, 4 boxes fit per layer and 6 in height. This means that a maximum of 24 boxes fit on a pallet.

Other factors that influence the number of boxes per pallet

The number of boxes that fit on a pallet is not only dependent on the box dimensions. Other factors also play a role, such as:

  • Weight of the load: pallets can carry a certain weight. If your boxes are heavy, this can limit the number of layers.
  • Height of the stack: there are often height restrictions in warehouses and on trucks.
  • Stability of the boxes: heavy or fragile products may require extra protection, such as pallet wrapping or interlayers.
