NEW RULES, NEW SOLUTIONS; PPWR AND CSRD
Among other things, European legislators are focusing their attention on pallets as part of broader initiatives to promote the circular economy. New PPWR and CSRD legislation calls for new solutions.
PPWR: PALLETS AS TRANSPORT PACKAGING
PPWR stands for Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation. With this amended directive, the EU is letting pallets fall under the label of transport packaging. The ambitious 2030/2040 targets mean big changes for those who have not yet paid much attention to the life cycle of pallets. TARGETS FOR REUSE
The PPWR proposal sets targets for reuse and is part of wider efforts to promote reuse of packaging materials. The proposal is not yet binding, but there is positive support from industry and the EU. Foresco is proactive and is helping to make wooden pallets and packaging as sustainable as possible.
MEET NEW REQUIREMENTS
When the legislation becomes final, companies will be required to monitor their pallet flows closely and possibly improve their data provision. This may mean knowing how many pallets you have, what type, what condition they are in and what the percentage of reusable pallets is. CSRD: CORPORATE SUSTAINABILITY REPORTING DIRECTIVE
CSRD stands for Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive. This EU directive requires companies to report on their sustainability performance and non-financial information. This is to promote transparency and enable investors, consumers, policymakers and other stakeholders to make better-informed decisions.
