EUDR: European Regulation on Deforestation-Free Products

The European Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), also known as Regulation (EU) 2023/1115, aims to combat deforestation and forest degradation. The EUDR imposes stricter rules on the placement of certain raw materials and products on the European Union market.

What does this mean for Foresco?

At Foresco, we use wood as a raw material for our pallets and packaging products. The EUDR requires us to carefully assess and map the risks within our supply chain. We must ensure that our raw materials do not contribute to deforestation or forest degradation.

We do this by:

  • Origin tracing: We trace the origin of the wood we use.
  • Risk assessment: We assess relevant risks in accordance with EUDR legislation.
  • Production: We only supply products made from wood with a negligible risk of deforestation or forest degradation, or wood that complies with the EUDR.

The impact for our customers

As of December 30, 2025, pallets that we supply as standalone products must be accompanied by a due diligence statement. If you use our pallets and packaging solely for the transport of goods, no additional obligations apply. However, if you sell our pallets and packaging as individual products, you are responsible for carrying out your own due diligence and issuing a declaration to your customers.

Our control measures

Compliance with the EUDR is in line with our broader sustainability strategy. For example, we increasingly choose PEFC-certified wood, ensuring that our wood comes from sustainably managed forests. We also maintain close relationships with our suppliers, most of whom are based in Europe, to jointly develop the best methods for collecting and evaluating information related to deforestation and forest degradation risks and for managing those risks. As required by law, we will be fully compliant with EUDR requirements by the end of 2025.

Postponed start date

The European Parliament has approved a 12-month postponement of the regulation’s entry into force. This moves the original implementation date of December 30, 2024, to December 30, 2025. The extension provides the European Union and affected sectors with additional time to align theory and practice. We will continue to closely monitor our supply chain and all related legislation.
